Roll-Up The Old And Into The New Year

Rolling into 2009!

Better than soap! So if you want to use chocolate, you might want to consider picking at least one exercise that will trim your tummy...

The Pilates Roll Up is an intense challenge for the abdominal muscles, and a perfect articulation for the spine. It has been said that one well executed Roll Up is equal to six regular sit ups, and is much better than crunches for creating a flat stomach.

I know I have shared this with you many times in 2008. But that was then. And we have a tendency to forget. So here I am again, your trusty Pilates blogger, reminding you to wrap your arms around the Pilates Roll-Up.

Just remember that it's not a fast paced movement. Rather, it's precise, and controlled. That's what makes it work.

Too, don't be discouraged if you can't do it at first. In that case, do modified Roll-Ups:

  • Begin sitting up.
  • Slowly ROLL back (don't lean back) a few inches or as far as you can control the movement.

  • Now ROLL back up to the top.

  • Keep your core engaged.

  • NOTE: Rolling means articulating your spine. Articulating means moving thru each and every layer of your spine. While your spine may not be able to "speak" quite so well, make it your goal. That will take practice every day. Give me 10 minutes daily, and you will be fluent in a matter of weeks or months, depending on your body type and weaknesses.

By the way, if you love chocolate, stick with the dark, as it's the best for you. Try it without any sugar in it. Now that would be the way to use it in place of soap!
